Book Title: The Illustrated Book of Trees: The Comprehensive Field Guide to More Than 250 Trees of Eastern North
Author: William Carey Grimm
Publisher: Stackpole Books; Revised Il edition
Publication Date: 6/1/2001
Another outstanding reference book. This book, and its companion "The Illustrated Book of Wildflowers and Shrubs",are an invaluable in identifying native trees and woody shrubs.
This key allows the user to identify plants not just by the flower, but also by leaves and (particularly useful in winter) by bark, branch/twig and bud.
The author states in the introduction to the shrubs volume “This book is intended tobe a popular guide...“ and it succeeds. The language in both is not overly scientific but is very clear and specific in the plant characteristics needed for identification.
